Day 32 Another Climb

I started the day with a good breakfast.  While at the restaurant I spoke with a person for a while, when I went to pay, the person had paid for my breakfast and slipped away.  Very kind of him. I climbed up another long accent to another divide today, Willow Creek Pass. The trees in the Rockies are a mass of dead wood. The Bark Beetle has attacked and killed the live trees.  The mountains look white instead of a green.

Day 31 The Climb Pictures

I Wondered If Those Were The Mountains I Would Climb

Day 31, Over The Devide

Guffey only had one restaurant for breakfast and it opened later so I started the day without food. It was cold, frost on the ground. I set out to cross the Continental Divide (Hoosier Pass) at 11, 542 feet. The approach to the East side of the Pass has plains. The wind was blowing directly at me. It made the climb difficult.  I finally made it and continued on. I passed a wonderful ski town called Breckenridge.  I got on a bike path that went along rivers and lakes, over a dam. I had heard that there was a 11 mile stretch of road work with torn up rough highway ahead. I made a decision to get through it and rode into the late evening just before sunset. It made it a long 123 mile day. I ended at a antique hotel/hostel in Kremmling. It was a welcome sight.

Day 27

I started the morning with a huge breakfast. I saw four bicyclists leaving town as I went to eat. I caught up with them later. I rode with them but they stopped at 50 miles. I continued another 50 miles to Tribune,  Kansas. I slept at the local park. I had the perfect spot until the sun went down. Then big bugs that looked like flying cockroaches started flying at the tent. They were noisy, couldn't get to sleep. So at 11:00 pm I moved. Going to a breakfast feed in the morning. Nice town.
