Guess What Time It Is

Day 27

I started the morning with a huge breakfast. I saw four bicyclists leaving town as I went to eat. I caught up with them later. I rode with them but they stopped at 50 miles. I continued another 50 miles to Tribune,  Kansas. I slept at the local park. I had the perfect spot until the sun went down. Then big bugs that looked like flying cockroaches started flying at the tent. They were noisy, couldn't get to sleep. So at 11:00 pm I moved. Going to a breakfast feed in the morning. Nice town.

Day 25 Hot and Windy

Today was more difficult than an Ironman Competition. At one point during the day around 1:30 PM I decided to push on.  The map said no services for 58 miles. The wind was relentless and it was Hot. I made it to Larned Kansas around 7:30 PM.  I was tired. I camped in a city park.

Like surfing in the ocean the large trucks blowing by you in the oncoming lane create a large gust of wind like a giant wave at the ocean.  I started grabbing my lower handlebars and crouching to lessen the effect of the wind gust smashing into me like diving into the waves at the ocean.

Day 25 Morning Newton, Kansas

It has been a couple of days. I am well into Kansas now. I am enjoying Kansas. So far it has been shallow rolling hills with long stretches of not seeing anyone. I don't mind.  The people I have seen have been friendly. Yesterday I had a choice at 3:30 to stop or keep going. It was a 40 some mile stretch ahead with no services on the route. I kept going for a 143 mile day. Today is the same. A choice,  stop short or continue on a 50 some mile stretch in the hot late afternoon. The scenery, although relatively smoother and remote with few trees is still beautiful to me.  Have a good day!
